I've never understood why some people choose to take their computers to big box stores for service. You have to pack up the computer, wait in line, sign your rights away and--more often than not--all they want to do is wipe your hard drive. They don't care if you lose your all your family photos, emails, bookmarks and music. Then that smarmy high school kid will suggest you spend even more, on a hard drive for backups.

Do you ever catch yourself thinking, "What the flapjack happened to customer service?" Me too. I promise I'll always wipe my feet, give you options for saving your files and explain all that techie stuff in plain English.

I don't just fix computers, I also offer to train my clients in routine computer maintenance. I'll show you how to keep your software up-to-date--the first step in closing security holes and keeping your computer safe. I'll show you how to identify websites and e-mails that are "phishing" for your personal information. I'll even show you how to burn DVD backups of your files, all for my normal hourly fee of $35.

Some people tell me that this whole client empowerment movement won't be good for business--that I'll somehow run out of computers to fix because I'm teaching everybody how to do it themselves. But I live by the teach-a-man-to-fish philosophy, and if you think that's a philosophy worth spreading around, all I ask is that you refer a friend or family member to me. Together we can build a network of happy, healthy computers all across Tucson.
